There have been numerous incidents, both locally and throughout the state, of persons posing as property owners and collecting security deposits or application fees from unsuspecting renters. Once they collect the money, the renter can no longer reach them.

Carbondale Housing Authority requires that any landlord new to the Section 8 Program come into our office in person and provide picture ID and proof of ownership of the rental property, (deed, mortgage statement, tax bill, etc.) before they can be added to our Landlord List.

Please do not give any money or information to anyone without verifying that they are the actual property owner. Once your money is gone, there is very little that can be done to recover it.

If you suspect you have been a victim of fraud, you should contact your local police department.
